Why are Membrane Roofs superior?
For any roof that is flat or low pitched, water runoff is a problem. Other roofing systems like hot mop, torch down, foam, or coatings don't have the waterproofness or longevity of a membrane roof. The membrane is completely waterproof and is much more durable than any other of the materials named previously. But almost always roofs always fail on the seams or penetrations from pipes. How is membrane different? A membrane roof is hot-air welded together. Flashings for pipes, skylights, drains are made of the same material and also hot air welded together. There are no glues or other materials that break down. It is plastics melted to other plastics. It makes for an extremely durable, extremely water tight, single piece system.
The membrane is also white. White is reflective, saving you energy costs and keeping the underside cool. It might be 120 degrees on the roof, but the roof surface will be cool to the touch. You can walk on it barefoot. Try walking barefoot on the asphalt parking lot. You can't. Same goes asphalt based roofing products like hot tar or torch down.
